Skiing in Kashmir is a stimulating and thrilling experience for any adventure enthusiast. The Ski Club of India was founded in Gulmarg in 1927 Gulmarg, 50 km from Srinagar is located at an altitude of 2,730 m is considered as the ski paradise of India. Ski-lovers from all over the country gather at this place because it is the only ski-resort in the mighty Himalayas is the cheapest one in the world to learn skiing with i with a splendid view of the Karakorams. Gulmarg provides an altitude difference of over 1,500 m with lengths of more than 10 km. So a ski-mountaineer can only reach these higher slopes. The beginners may hire any of the four ski lifts or a chairlift.

The skiing season in Gulmarg normally starts from the middle of December and continues till the middle of April. The resort had two Kasse Bohrer snow beating machines used for preparing skiing slopes, and five snowmobiles, which are used for going up the mountain. There are also experienced instructors available for supervising the visitors. Gulmarg is ideally acceptable for learning skiing, as it is probably the cheapest ski resort in the world.

Apart from Gulmarg, Srinagar is one of the skiing destinations. Ski tours from Pahalgam to Sonamarg through high mountain passes are highly thrilling experience. Wardwan Valley of Ladakh also attracts many ski-enthusiasts during the season.
